PART 2 of 3:
The covenant of marriage is the holiest of covenants to the Lord. It is a Godly commitment of sacrifice between a man and a woman. Each must first understand the love of God, recognize their roles, and finally be prepared for the trials and tribulations that will attempt to shake its very foundation…..which depends on their faith in the Word of God. Without the understanding, application, and dedication to doing His Word, certain failure will be the outcome. Again, marriage is about SELFLESSNESS…not selfishness.
Spiritually, Jesus is the husband and Israel is the wife. Throughout the scriptures, it details how Jesus loves and cares for His wife. Although she rebels, he never desired to permanently put her away. He, eventually, will marry Israel and be one with her. As husbands and wives (and potential husbands and wives), we must look towards the examples and guidelines set forth in His Word to help us establish our own holy covenants with the Lord first, and our spouses, second.
